About

Hello, I'm Jess!

I’m a Filipino illustrator from a small town in Mindanao, Philippines. I’ve been an artist for as long as I was able to hold a pencil, but really got my start with art during the pandemic when I started posting my work more consistently online! Since then, I’ve been doing art as a full-time job through client work, doing things from character design to book cover illustrations!

Growing up, I’ve always found comfort in cartoons and comic books. The idea of being able to create stories through art as a way to escape reality was something that resonated with me. As I grew older, I wanted to see more art that related to my experience as a queer Filipino living in a small town. This is why I started doing a lot of sapphic art, which is what I became known for, particularly those that represent the Filipino lesbian experience. Even though my work is not limited to this kind of art, and I’ve done a lot of work outside of this particular niche, I think it’s still very important for me to keep drawing about it and be proud of this side of my art and this side of myself.

From simple character illustrations, I started branching out and experimenting with other kinds of illustrations. I started taking an interest in creating book covers and worked on improving my creative skills.  I’ve worked with a lot of indie authors, which helped me improve this aspect of my art.

When I’m not drawing, I can be found either playing with my cat or sipping a nice cup of matcha while putting on a cozy game on my 3DS. I love reading and have always wanted to work on illustrating for books! I also love taking walks as a break between work, and have often taken inspiration from the mundane moments I see in my quaint town. Even though I’ve been an artist my whole life, creating art is still something I love learning about!

I’m excited to do more projects, may it be more book covers, picture books, or graphic novels, or anything that I may learn from. If you’d like to work with me, you can contact me here.
